Swear By runs referral programs for home service businesses. This is what we collect, why, and who helps us.
Who this covers
Businesses that use Swear By and their staff, the customers, crew and partners who refer, the people they refer, and visitors to this site. When a business invites you, we handle your information for that business.
What we collect
- Business accounts. Owner and staff names, emails and phone numbers, a crew member's home address if the business adds it (to catch self-referrals), and the business's name, mailing address, logo and colors. To register its texting with the carriers: the legal name, EIN (encrypted) and website the business enters, and a contact person. Passwords are stored only as one-way hashes.
- Customer records. What a business's CRM (Jobber, GoHighLevel or Zapier) or uploaded spreadsheet sends us: names, phone numbers, emails, addresses, and job and invoice dates and amounts.
- People who refer. Name, phone, email, referral code, link visits, and rewards earned and paid, plus a Venmo or PayPal handle if you give one. Bank details go to our payout provider, never to us.
- Tax forms. Before your rewards pass the IRS reporting limit for the year: your legal name, address and SSN or EIN on a W-9. The number is encrypted when you submit it. The business sees only the last four digits unless its owner exports it to file your 1099.
- People who are referred. The name, phone, email, address and service you enter on a business's page, and who sent you. It goes to that business and its CRM.
- Consent and messages. When you agree to texts: the exact words, the time and the page. Your STOP, START and HELP replies, email unsubscribes, and a copy of each text and email we send.
- Devices. On referral pages, a cookie that recognizes a returning browser, so we can catch self-referrals. A sign-in cookie for the dashboard and crew app. We store your IP address only as a scrambled hash, plus your browser type. No advertising or third-party analytics cookies.
- Demo requests. Your name, work email, phone if you give it, company, CRM and crew count.
How we use it
- To run the program. Enroll customers, credit referrals, catch fraud and self-referrals, hold and pay rewards, and send the messages the business turned on.
- For taxes. Collect the W-9s a business needs to file 1099s.
- To run Swear By. Bill businesses, keep the service secure and working, and answer support and demo requests.
We don't sell personal information, and we don't share it for advertising.
Texts and email
We text only people who agreed to get texts. Reply STOP to stop, HELP for help. Message and data rates may apply. We never sell or share mobile numbers or text consent with anyone for their marketing. Invitation emails from a business include an unsubscribe link.
Who helps us
- Vercel hosts the site.
- Neon stores the database.
- Postmark sends email.
- Twilio sends texts and registers each business's texting with the carriers (legal name, EIN, address, website and a contact person).
- Tremendous delivers rewards. It gets your name and, if we have it, your email.
- Stripe bills businesses for Swear By. Card details stay with Stripe.
- Sentry receives error reports, with personal details removed.
- The business's CRM (Jobber, GoHighLevel or Zapier), when the business connects it: we read jobs and invoices and send referred leads back.
Each gets only what it needs for that job. We also share information when the law requires it.
How we protect it
Connections are encrypted. Tax ID numbers are encrypted in the database. Each business's records are walled off from every other business's. Staff sign in with their own accounts, and money and tax actions are logged.
How long we keep it
While the business's program runs, and tax and payment records for as long as the law requires.
Your choices
- Texts. Reply STOP to any text.
- Email. Use the unsubscribe link.
- Leaving a program. Ask the business that invited you.
- Your information. To see, correct or delete it, ask the business that invited you. Tax forms and payment records we have to keep.
California residents have these rights too. We don't sell or share personal information.
Children
Swear By isn't for children. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.
